    I really learned a lot from this post. I’m in my fifties and for the last 2 years, my belly fat has increased a lot. I know it has a lot to do with menopause messing with my hormones as well as not moving around enough and I love to eat carbs. Being a blogger means lots of time sitting and writing. I need to make more of an effort to exercise more and eat less bread. The results will come if I do the work!

    I’ve known for a long time that belly fat is unattractive but I did not know that it is dangerous. It sounds like you are advocating a diet that reduces carbs and fat and exercise and the main criteria for the effectiveness of the exercise is that your heart rate goes up but by how much? And then that you keep the heart rate up for at least 20 to 30 minutes. But is that every day or every other day or three times a week? I thought there were other studies that showed you need to give your body some rest between exercises and it is better not to exercise every day? Or is that a matter of personal choice?       Hello Andy thanks for the reply it depends on what you actually want to achieve. You can exercise everyday by say walking but your right a rest between exercises is good as well.

    Hi Gary, and thanks for such an informative post. I am over 50 and I find that over the winter, when I am not as active, the belly fat accumulates. Over the summer, when I can get out and be more active, it helps a lot in reducing belly fat. One summer in particular, I walked about an hour or more each day, and found the belly fat going away quickly. I agree with you that consistency in exercise is the key.
